Wow!
Your job posting was a tantalizing read: I immediately wanted to know more. As a young company in a cool (warm?) location with an emphasis on atmosphere and employee development, you stood out above the crowd.
My love affair with computers has lasted for some 15 years now. At age 14, I wrote a GUI program to interact with comic publishers’ websites to deobfuscate download locations for the current day’s comic. The language? C. The API? Straight-up Windows SDK, event loops and all. It’s amazing what one can do when one is too poor to buy Visual Studio. (Yes, that means I didn’t have the benefit of a fancy set of CDs. Documentation was painfully downloaded over a dial-up connection – patience is a virtue, I’m told!)
After that I moved to the world of MOOs – interactive programmable virtual worlds. Here I discovered how many of the Internet’s servers worked. You can interact with anything if you just abide by the IETF’s RFC? Wow. I developed SMTP, POP3 and NNTP server implementations to benefit our virtual community and loved every minute of it. It left a lasting impression on me.
In fact, it was this exposure to rigorous programming standards and contracts that brought me to my current career as a Software Engineering student: my entrance essay to Waterloo was founded on my appreciation of the subtleties of the software world.
The subtleties of the software world make for the meat and potatoes of a company founded on automated testing. I want to know you better – and I hope you’ll want to know me better, too.
All the best in your search for a suitable candidate,
